From Scrapyard to Civic Space: Station Plaza Open
US2 marked a major milestone in the Union Square Revitalization with the substantial completion of landscape and hardscape improvements at Union Square Station Plaza—now the largest public space in Union Square.
To celebrate, US2 partnered with Mayor Ballantyne and the City of Somerville to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony, drawing strong attendance from local residents and businesses. The eventwas supported by Rococo Floral, Ricky’s Flowers, Union Square Donuts, and live music by the José Allende Jazz Trio.
Designed by local, women-owned landscape architecture firm Ground Inc., the 18,000-square- foot civic space features:
Over 600 linear feet of seating
Art infrastructure and an amphitheater
54 trees across 11 species—predominantly native and drought-tolerant
Sustainable stormwater infrastructure, including 70% pervious hardscape
We’re excited to see this new civic space come to life as residents, workers, and visitors gather, connect, and enjoy Union Square in a whole new way.
